Sometimes other things in our lives take precedence, and that is perfectly OK. It would be a shame to let Richmond go completely, but as you say, you'll keep it going until it will become unplayable. Good idea about writing about the events from someone else's perspective. As for TS3, I like it enough to have "bouts" of playing it every now and then, but not enough to let go of TS2 and my beloved New Maximiliania. At the moment I am not playing much - mostly due to work and renovation/redecoration going on at home - but I am still determined to re-organize the hood. Should be much easier now that I am at an all-time population low!
I think I'm going to be the same with TS3 - play it in bouts. That's what I did with my second hood in TS2. I play a lot of different games, and TS3 is a new addition to the list, but like you I don't see myself letting go of TS2 any time soon.
Well you know I certainly wouldn't fault you if you wanted to remake Richmond in a new game, since my sims have been remade in 3 different games now, lol! But right, you might as well wait until the hood gives you trouble again. But when you're ready, it can be really fun and rewarding to see your characters in a new game.
Those are all very good tactics for getting a story unstuck, and I use many of those all the time in my writing! Skipping ahead or telling the story in retrospect, particularly. Sometimes what you assume is a writers block is really just the story telling you that it wants to be told differently.
