So, yeah... that was the phone call

*sigh* ... first obituary on my blog. I tried to write something, but couldn't make it sound right, so I decided instead to just go with pictures only. There's a mix of originals, recreated pictures (whether for other prequel stories, or just for this post), and memorable moments since I've been blogging this story. The oldest ones are poor quality (taken in the first months of my playing this game - he's been here almost from the beginning), but I just wanted to include the originals of things like his first ever picture in my hood, or the day he met April.

Serdar was the adopted youngest child of the five in my first play family, and his only surviving sibling is Ben Green. He had four children and 12 grandchildren, and also two more grandchildren and his first great-grandchild on the way. And in case you're wondering why I couldn't just let him stay a little longer, see the new babies... I have to explain how and why this is happening now.

I give my elder sims one sim-year for every day the game gives them over age 60, and I random-roll the month. Serdar was supposed to die in March 2025... but in March 2025, this was happening.  I couldn't bring myself to let him die then, I couldn't do that to him or to Cory. So I gave him one more year. So now's not a great time for Cory either, but like in real life, I guess there never is a right time. I think it still worked out better for having given him that year - it meant he got to see Cory get his life back on track again, and he got to see Helen married, too.

I've been dreading this one, even so. I've read players say stuff like, they wish the elder life stage was shorter or whatever but me, I hate letting go of my elder sims.

RIP and thanks for four r/l years of memorable simming.

  1. I am not equally attached to all of my Sims, but there are some I hope will stick around for a long time to come :-)
To show his life in pictures is a good idea, and it doesn't need many words to explain what's been going on.

    1. Thanks, it just seemed to work better that writing it... especially as I'd already written about a lot of his past in a prequel story

  2. :( I knew it was his death when the phone rang. So sad

    1. Yes, and more sad to come, unfortunately... like I said, this family seem to attract the drama.

  3. Oh, so it wasn't Melissa! Phew for that but it's still sad to lose Serdar. He was like the patriarch of your blog! I enjoyed the look back at his very full life.

    1. Yes, he was like the patriarch... most of my elders now are 'young' elders (in their 60's or so), so it might be a while before anyone else takes over that role.

  4. Like Carla, I thought it was going to be Melissa. I am happy it wasn't even though I am sad to see that Serdar is gone. Hopefully, his passing doesn't do to much damage to the family.

    1. I've been dropping in on some of his family to see how they're taking it... so far, one person's aspiration's bottomed out, and it was one I definitely wasn't expecting... I'm not even sure how I'm going to work it into the story.

BTW, unlike some things, the mention of Melissa wasn't intended as a deliberate mis-lead. I wanted to do the death 'off-camera', and it just seemed natural that Cory would think that when the phone rung during the night.

  5. Aw well this stinks to lose Serdar, but I'm relieved it's not Melissa. Serdar had lived a very full life, and was there for his family, I feel like it's okay. And it's been sort of coming for a long time as well. Melissa is young, and so much would be unresolved if we lost her now. I really liked all the photos showcasing his life.

    1. Yeah, it does feel okay, in a sad way. It was his time... I dread losing someone younger who had a future ahead of them - even looking at that first picture of him with April, I was thinking of might-have-beens.
